Neurofibromatosis

Neurofibromatosis (NF) is a genetic disorder that causes tumors to grow on nerves throughout the body. It mainly comes in two forms: NF1 and NF2. NF1 is characterized by skin changes, such as café-au-lait spots and neurofibromas (soft, benign tumors), while NF2 typically leads to hearing loss due to tumors on auditory nerves. Symptoms can vary widely, and while the condition itself is not life-threatening, complications may arise. There is no cure, but regular monitoring and management can help address symptoms and improve quality of life. Genetic counseling is often recommended for affected individuals and their families.
