Neuraxial blockade
Neuraxial blockade is a medical procedure used to numb parts of the body, typically during surgery or childbirth. It involves injecting medications into the spine, which blocks pain signals from the lower body. The two main types are spinal and epidural blocks. Spinal block delivers medication directly into the spinal fluid for fast, complete numbness, while epidural block places medication in the outer space around the spinal cord for more prolonged pain relief. This technique helps manage pain effectively while allowing patients to remain awake and alert during procedures.
