neuraminidase inhibitor
Neuraminidase inhibitors are antiviral medications used to treat flu. They work by blocking the action of an enzyme called neuraminidase, which the influenza virus uses to spread from infected cells to healthy ones. By preventing this process, these drugs reduce the severity and duration of flu symptoms and help prevent the virus from multiplying quickly. Common neuraminidase inhibitors include oseltamivir (Tamiflu) and zanamivir (Relenza). They are most effective when taken early in the infection, ideally within the first 48 hours of symptoms appearing.
