Network Address Translation
Network Address Translation (NAT) is a process used by routers to modify the IP addresses of devices within a local network before they access the internet. This allows multiple devices, like smartphones and computers, to share a single public IP address. When a device sends data to the internet, NAT translates its private IP address into the router’s public IP address. When data returns, NAT directs it back to the correct device inside the network. This enhances security, conserves public IP addresses, and simplifies network management.
