Nestorian relations with other Christian sects

Nestorianism, associated with the early Christian theologian Nestorius, emphasized the distinctness of Jesus' divine and human natures, which led to disagreements with other Christian sects. Historically, Nestorians were considered heretical by the Byzantine church because they rejected the idea of a single person of Christ embodying both natures. This caused divisions with other churches like the Chalcedonian (Orthodox and Catholic)—who affirm Jesus as one person with two natures—and the Monophysites, who emphasize a single, unified divine nature. Today, Nestorian churches (like the Assyrian Church of the East) are separate but share roots with other Eastern Christian traditions, maintaining historic doctrinal differences.
