Nereis (genus)
Nereis is a genus of marine worms known as polychaetes, commonly called ragworms or sandworms. These worms have segmented bodies with numerous bristly appendages called setae, which help them move and burrow in the sand or mud. They are often found along coastline intertidal zones and are important ecosystem partners, serving as prey for many fish and birds. Nereis species vary in size and coloration but generally share a cylindrical, flexible body structure and well-developed head with sensory antennae. They play a vital role in sediment aeration and nutrient cycling in marine environments.
