nephro-ureterectomy

Nephroureterectomy is a surgical procedure to remove the kidney and the ureter (the tube that connects the kidney to the bladder), typically performed to treat cancers in these areas. The operation involves carefully excising the affected kidney along with the entire ureter and a small part of the bladder where the ureter connects. This helps ensure all cancerous tissue is removed, reducing the risk of spread. The remaining urinary system then reroutes urine flow, often through a new connection or drain. It is usually done under general anesthesia and requires careful planning to preserve overall kidney function and patient safety.
