NEPC
NEPC, or Neuroendocrine Prostate Cancer, is a rare and aggressive form of prostate cancer that arises when traditional prostate cancer cells change into neuroendocrine cells. These cells grow quickly and often do not respond well to standard hormone therapies used for typical prostate cancer. NEPC can develop either from existing prostate cancer or spontaneously, often after treatment. Diagnosing NEPC involves specialized tests, and treatment usually requires chemotherapy or other targeted therapies because it behaves differently from more common prostate cancers. Recognizing NEPC is essential for appropriate management and improving patient outcomes.
