Nepalese earthquake (2015)
The 2015 Nepal earthquake, officially called the Gorkha earthquake, occurred on April 25, with a magnitude of 7.8. It was caused by the collision of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates, which creates significant pressure along the Himalayan fault line. The quake struck central Nepal, including Kathmandu, causing widespread destruction, landslides, and thousands of fatalities. The seismic activity also triggered aftershocks and avalanches in the Himalayas. This event highlighted the region's vulnerability due to its geological activity, damaging historical landmarks and infrastructure, and prompting massive rescue and rebuilding efforts.
