Nepal earthquake (2015)
The 2015 Nepal earthquake, also known as the Gorkha earthquake, occurred on April 25, with a magnitude of 7.8. It was caused by the ongoing collision of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates, which created immense pressure and triggered a powerful quake. The shaking lasted about a minute, devastating buildings, infrastructure, and landmarks across Nepal, especially near the capital, Kathmandu. Thousands of people lost their lives, and many others were injured or displaced. The earthquake also triggered avalanches on Mount Everest and caused landslides, highlighting the region's seismic vulnerability. It prompted a large international relief effort.
