neovascular AMD
Neovascular age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a condition where abnormal blood vessels develop beneath the retina, the light-sensitive layer at the back of the eye. These vessels can leak fluid or blood, causing damage to the central vision area called the macula. This leads to blurred or distorted vision, making detailed tasks like reading or recognizing faces difficult. It often progresses quickly and is a common cause of vision loss in older adults. Treatments like anti-VEGF injections can help slow disease progression and preserve vision by reducing abnormal vessel growth and leakage.
