Neonatal nurse practitioners
Neonatal nurse practitioners (NNPs) are advanced registered nurses specialized in caring for newborns, especially those who are premature, critically ill, or require specialized medical attention. They work closely with neonatal doctors (pediatricians) to monitor and treat newborns in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) and delivery rooms. NNPs perform physical exams, order tests, administer medications, and develop care plans to ensure infants receive optimal care. With advanced training, they provide both medical interventions and family support, helping improve outcomes for the most vulnerable newborns.
