Nebraska History
Nebraska's history features Indigenous tribes like the Omaha and Lakota before European settlers arrived. It became part of the Louisiana Purchase in 1803, opening the region to exploration and settlement. The Oregon Trail and other routes brought pioneers, leading to agriculture and cattle ranching. Nebraska officially became a state in 1867. The state's economy grew through farming, especially corn and soybeans, and later, manufacturing and technology. Nebraska has also been home to significant events in U.S. history and a diverse cultural heritage, with roots in Native American, European, and African-American communities shaping its development.
