NCS (Neurocardiogenic Syncope)
Neurocardiogenic Syncope (NCS), also known as vasovagal syncope, is a common cause of fainting triggered by a sudden drop in heart rate and blood pressure. This response is often in reaction to stress, pain, or prolonged standing. When it occurs, blood flow to the brain decreases temporarily, causing lightheadedness or loss of consciousness. The body’s nervous system overreacts, dilating blood vessels and slowing the heart. Most episodes are harmless and can be managed with lifestyle adjustments. Understanding triggers and practicing techniques like deep breathing or physical counter-maneuvers can help prevent future episodes.
