The NCAA Football Playoff is a championship system that determines the national college football champion in the NCAA Division I FBS. The top four teams, selected based on their regular-season performance and rankings, are invited to compete in a series of two semifinal games held at neutral sites. The winners of these semifinals advance to the national championship game to compete for the title. This playoff system replaced the previous bowl-based format to provide a more definitive and competitive method of crowning a national champion.
