Navy Air Service
The Navy Air Service was the branch of the United States Navy responsible for naval aviation operations, including maritime reconnaissance, ship-to-ship combat support, and aerial patrol missions. Established in 1911, it developed aircraft and trained personnel to enhance naval capabilities, allowing ships to see farther and respond more effectively. The service played a crucial role in World War I and laid the groundwork for the later development of the U.S. Navy's naval air forces, ultimately evolving into the modern Naval Air Forces and the U.S. Navy’s aviation combat arm.
