The Naval Treaty of Washington, signed in 1922, was an international agreement aimed at preventing an arms race among major naval powers like the United States, Britain, Japan, France, and Italy. It set limits on the size and number of battleships and aircraft carriers these countries could build, based on a ratio reflecting their existing naval strength. The treaty also promoted naval disarmament and aimed for stability and peace in global maritime relations.
