Nautilus (submarine)

The Nautilus was the first practical nuclear-powered submarine, launched in 1954. Unlike traditional submarines that rely on diesel engines or batteries, it used a nuclear reactor for energy, allowing it to operate underwater for extended periods without surfacing. This innovation gave it greater endurance, speed, and stealth. The Nautilus could stay submerged for weeks, travel vast distances, and was capable of performing (and in some cases pioneering) military and scientific missions during the Cold War era. Its development marked a significant advance in naval technology, transforming submarines from limited, short-duration vessels into powerful, long-range submarines.
