Nature Conservancy Council
The Nature Conservancy Council (NCC) was a UK government agency established in 1979 responsible for preserving and managing the country’s natural habitats, wildlife, and landscapes. It oversaw protected areas, promoted biodiversity, and supported conservation initiatives. In 1991, its responsibilities were divided, with many functions transferred to other agencies, such as English Nature (now Natural England). The NCC played a key role in identifying important sites, advising on environmental policies, and ensuring sustainable management of natural resources. It was an important part of the UK's efforts to conserve natural heritage and promote environmental sustainability.
