Nativist movement
The Nativist movement is a political and social ideology that emphasizes protecting the interests of native-born or established inhabitants of a country against those of immigrants or newcomers. It often involves advocating for policies that restrict immigration and promote cultural or economic dominance of long-standing residents. Historically, nativism has been driven by fears that immigrants may threaten national identity, jobs, or social stability. While it aims to preserve certain national characteristics, critics argue it can foster discrimination and xenophobia. The movement reflects a tension between openness to diversity and desire for societal cohesion based on perceived common heritage.
