Native American treaties

Native American treaties are formal agreements made between Indigenous tribes and the U.S. government. These treaties often outlined land rights, hunting and fishing privileges, and sovereignty, sometimes in exchange for peace or land cessions. Although they were legally binding, many treaties were misunderstood, broken, or violated over time, leading to disputes. They serve as important historical documents recognizing tribal sovereignty and rights, even though the impact of these agreements continues to influence Native communities today.
