Native American Language families

Native American language families are groups of related languages spoken by indigenous peoples in North and South America. These families, such as Algonquian, Siouan, Athabaskan, and Iroquoian, share common ancestors, which means their languages evolved from the same original language long ago. Just like Spanish and Italian are related Romance languages, these Native language families show historical connections. Today, many of these languages are endangered, but they remain crucial for understanding indigenous cultures, histories, and identities. Recognizing these families helps us appreciate the linguistic diversity and rich heritage of Native American peoples.
