Native Alaskan languages

Native Alaskan languages are indigenous languages spoken by Alaska's Indigenous peoples, including the Inupiaq, Yupik, Aleut, Athabaskan, Tlingit, Haida, and Tsimshian, among others. They comprise over 20 distinct language families with unique grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation. Many of these languages are endangered due to historical factors like colonization and cultural suppression. Efforts are ongoing to preserve and revitalize them through education, documentation, and community programs. These languages are vital for maintaining cultural identity, oral traditions, and traditional knowledge of Alaska’s diverse Indigenous communities.
