Nationalist Party of China
The Nationalist Party of China, also known as the Kuomintang (KMT), was a major political party in China founded in 1919. It aimed to promote nationalism, modernization, and national unity, opposing warlords and imperialist influences. Led historically by Sun Yat-sen and later Chiang Kai-shek, the KMT played a key role in overthrowing the Qing Dynasty and establishing the Republic of China. After losing civil war to Communist forces, the KMT retreated to Taiwan in 1949, where it continued to govern and promote Chinese nationalism and democracy, remaining a significant political force there today.
