National Sharecroppers Association
The National Sharecroppers’ Association (NSA) was an organization founded in 1969 to support Black farmers and sharecroppers who faced economic exploitation and discrimination, particularly in the segregated South. Sharecropping was a system where farmers—often marginalized groups—worked land owned by others, giving a large portion of their crops as rent, which kept them in poverty. The NSA aimed to promote fair treatment, economic justice, and political empowerment for Black farmers, advocating for better land rights, access to resources, and policy changes to address racial inequalities in agriculture and rural communities.
