National Rivers Authority

The National Rivers Authority (NRA) was a UK government agency established in 1989 to manage and protect water resources, including rivers, lakes, and groundwater. It replaced local authorities' responsibilities for water quality and pollution control, focusing on maintaining clean, safe, and sustainable waterways. The NRA also regulated industries to prevent environmental damage and promoted flood control initiatives. In 1996, it was replaced by the Environment Agency, which continues to oversee water management and environmental protection across England.
