National Reconciliation Law

The National Reconciliation Law was enacted in Colombia in 2016 to promote peace and unity after decades of conflict. It aims to address the root causes of violence, promote forgiveness, and encourage social and political reconciliation. The law establishes mechanisms for integrating former combatants into society, provides reparations for victims, and fosters truth-telling about past abuses. Its goal is to build a sustainable peace by balancing justice, acknowledgment, and societal healing, helping diverse groups move forward together while respecting legal processes and human rights.
