National Prison Rape Elimination Commission (NPREC)
The National Prison Rape Elimination Commission (NPREC) was a federal agency established to address and prevent sexual assault and abuse in prisons and detention facilities. Its goal was to develop policies, standards, and recommendations to protect inmates from sexual violence. The commission aimed to improve safety, ensure fair treatment, and reduce incidents through oversight and guidance for correctional institutions. Although it was active in the early 2000s, the commission was temporarily disbanded in 2005 and its responsibilities later transferred to other agencies. Its work contributed to broader efforts to uphold human rights and dignity within the correctional system.
