National Liberation Front of South Vietnam
The National Liberation Front of South Vietnam, often known as the Viet Cong, was a political and military organization formed in the late 1950s. It aimed to unite Vietnam under communist leadership, opposing the government of South Vietnam, which was supported by the United States. The Viet Cong utilized guerrilla warfare tactics and gained significant support from the local population, contributing to the ongoing Vietnam War. Their activities helped heighten tensions and ultimately led to the unification of Vietnam in 1975, after years of conflict and heavy loss of life on all sides.
