National Food Security Act (India)

The National Food Security Act (NFSA), enacted in India in 2013, aims to provide affordable and adequate food to the majority of the population. It guarantees subsidized rice, wheat, and coarse grains to eligible families through a system of targeted Public Distribution System (PDS). The act also entitles pregnant women and children to nutritional support and meals in part-time programs. By establishing legal rights to food, NFSA seeks to combat hunger, improve health, and promote social equity, ensuring that vulnerable populations have access to sufficient nutrition and basic food security.
