National Fire Service (UK)

The National Fire Service (NFS) was a unified firefighting organization in the UK, established during World War II in 1941 to coordinate efforts across the country and better respond to fire threats, especially from bombing raids. It combined local fire brigades into a centralized system to improve efficiency and resource sharing. The NFS operated until 1947, when control was returned to local authorities. Today, firefighting services in the UK are managed regionally by Fire and Rescue Authorities, but the NFS played a crucial role in national emergency response during wartime.
