National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA)

The National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA) is Jamaica’s government organization responsible for protecting the environment and guiding sustainable development. It enforces laws related to environmental conservation, manages natural resources, and ensures that development projects follow environmental standards. NEPA also plans for land use, manages forests, waters, and biodiversity, and promotes awareness about environmental issues. Its goal is to balance development with ecological preservation, ensuring a healthy environment for current and future generations.
