National Energy Board (NEB)
The National Energy Board (NEB) was a Canadian federal agency responsible for regulating pipelines, energy development, and trade across the country. It ensured that energy projects were safe, environmentally responsible, and fair to Canadians by overseeing the approval process, monitoring operations, and resolving disputes. In 2019, the NEB was replaced by the Canada Energy Regulator (CER), which now handles these responsibilities. Essentially, the NEB helped balance Canada's energy needs with safety, environmental, and economic considerations to protect the public interest.
