National Congress Party (Sudan)

The National Congress Party (NCP) was a major political organization in Sudan, founded in 1998 by Omar al-Bashir, who led the country for nearly three decades. It was Islamist-oriented and played a dominant role in Sudan's government, influencing policies and national direction. The NCP was involved in internal conflicts, including the Darfur crisis, and was seen as central to Sudan’s political landscape. In 2019, following widespread protests and the ousting of Bashir, the NCP was dissolved, marking a significant shift toward Sudan’s attempts at political reform and transition to civilian rule.
