National Commission on Libraries and Information Science (NCLIS)
The National Commission on Libraries and Information Science (NCLIS) was a U.S. government advisory body established to help improve access to information and libraries across the country. It provided recommendations on how to support libraries, information services, and technology to benefit the public, education, and government agencies. NCLIS aimed to ensure that everyone could freely access information resources, fostering knowledge, learning, and informed citizenship. While it was active for several decades, it was closed in 2016, and its functions have since been absorbed by other organizations and initiatives focused on information policy and library development.
