National Biodiversity Institute (INBIO)
The National Biodiversity Institute (INBIO) is a research organization dedicated to conserving and studying Costa Rica’s rich variety of plants, animals, and ecosystems. Its goal is to understand biological diversity, promote sustainable use of natural resources, and support environmental education. INBIO collects data, manages biological collections, and works with government, researchers, and local communities to protect biodiversity while ensuring its benefits are shared responsibly. By doing so, INBIO helps preserve Costa Rica’s natural heritage for future generations and supports ecological health and sustainable development.
