Natalizumab
Natalizumab is a medication used to treat multiple sclerosis (MS), an autoimmune disease where the immune system attacks the nervous system. It works by blocking certain immune cells from passing into the brain and spinal cord, reducing inflammation and nerve damage. This helps to slow MS progression and decrease relapse frequency. Typically administered through infusion every four weeks, natalizumab is effective but requires careful monitoring due to potential serious side effects, such as infections like progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML). It is usually prescribed when other treatments haven't been effective or are not tolerated.
