nasal anatomy
The nasal anatomy consists of two hollow passages called nasal cavities, divided by a septum. These cavities are lined with mucous membranes that filter, warm, and humidify the air we breathe. Tiny hair-like structures called cilia trap dust and germs. Inside, there are also structures like turbinates—bony ridges covered with soft tissue—that help regulate airflow and temperature. The nose has openings called nostrils for breathing and smell, and its complex structure aids in voice resonance and overall respiratory health.
