Narrative Transportation Theory

Narrative Transportation Theory suggests that when people engage deeply with a story—whether in a book, movie, or other form—they become mentally and emotionally immersed, as if they are experiencing the events themselves. This immersion can influence their attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors by creating a sense of presence within the story. Essentially, storytelling can “transport” individuals into a different world, making them more receptive to messages embedded in the narrative. This theory helps explain why compelling stories are powerful tools for education, persuasion, and changing opinions.
