Narkompros (People’s Commissariat for Education) was a Soviet government agency established in 1917 responsible for overseeing education, arts, and cultural policies. Its aim was to promote literacy, cultural development, and education aligned with revolutionary ideals. It supported innovative artistic movements, expanded schooling, and aimed to create a new Soviet identity through education and culture. Narkompros played a key role in shaping Soviet cultural policies during the early years of the USSR until it was reorganized in the 1930s.
