Nansen’s Arctic expedition

Fridtjof Nansen's Arctic expedition (1893–1896) aimed to explore the uncharted Arctic Ocean and test if a ship could drift with the polar ice. Nansen designed the large, specially built ship, Fram, which was built to withstand polar pressures. He intentionally allowed the ice to carry the ship towards the North Pole, expecting it to drift. Although he did not reach the Pole himself, Nansen’s team successfully navigated vast, treacherous ice-covered waters, raising awareness about the Arctic and advancing polar science. His innovative methods and leadership made a significant impact on Arctic exploration.
