Nanakshahi Calendar
The Nanakshahi Calendar is a contemporary Sikh calendar introduced in 2003 to mark the Sikh year, starting from 1469—the birth year of Guru Nanak, the religion’s founder. It closely follows the Gregorian calendar but is aligned with Sikh religious events and festivals. The calendar has 12 months, with fixed dates for major Sikh celebrations like Guru Nanak’s birth and Gurpurabs. Designed for consistency and clarity, it helps Sikhs worldwide observe their religious dates uniformly, separate from lunar-based calendars, while maintaining compatibility with the Gregorian year.
