Named Entity Recognition

Named Entity Recognition (NER) is a process used in natural language processing that identifies and classifies specific pieces of information—called entities—in text. These entities include names of people, organizations, locations, dates, and other proper nouns. NER helps computers understand the key elements within a sentence, making it easier to extract meaningful insights or organize information. For example, in the sentence "Apple announced the iPhone in California," NER would recognize "Apple" as an organization, "iPhone" as a product, and "California" as a location. This technology is fundamental for tasks like search, summarization, and data analysis.
