Nabataean script

The Nabataean script was an ancient writing system used by the Nabataean people around 200 BCE to 300 CE in what is now Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and surrounding regions. It is a descendant of Aramaic and is written from right to left. The script features consonant-based characters with few vowels indicated, similar in style to early Arabic scripts. Over time, Nabataean evolved into the Arabic script we recognize today. It was mainly used for inscriptions, letters, and documents, reflecting the Nabataeans' trade-based culture and their ability to adapt existing scripts for their own language.
