Myocardial function

Myocardial function refers to how effectively the heart muscle pumps blood throughout the body. The heart's primary role is to receive oxygen-rich blood from the lungs and pump it to nourish tissues and organs. When the myocardium (heart muscle) functions well, it contracts strongly and efficiently, ensuring adequate blood flow. If the myocardium weakens or is damaged, it can't pump as effectively, which can lead to symptoms like fatigue, shortness of breath, and fluid buildup. Assessing myocardial function helps determine heart health and guides treatment for conditions like heart failure or cardiomyopathy.
