Myocardial Fibrosis

Myocardial fibrosis is a condition where excess scar tissue forms in the heart muscle. This happens when the heart experiences injury, inflammation, or stress over time, causing the normal, healthy heart tissue to be replaced with stiff, less flexible scar tissue. This reduces the heart's ability to contract and pump blood effectively, potentially leading to decreased heart function and symptoms like fatigue or shortness of breath. While fibrosis is part of the body's healing process, excessive or widespread scarring can impair heart performance and increase the risk of heart failure or arrhythmias.
