MV Estonia
The MV Estonia was a Swedish-built passenger and cargo ferry that sank in the Baltic Sea on September 28, 1994, during a storm. It was traveling between Tallinn, Estonia, and Stockholm, Sweden. The ship's design and stability issues, combined with severe weather, led to its capsizing and the loss of 852 lives. The disaster remains one of the deadliest ferry accidents in European history. Investigations have pointed to problems with the vessel’s bow visor and safety procedures, highlighting the importance of rigorous ship design, maintenance, and safety standards in maritime travel.
