Mutated Oncogenes

Mutated oncogenes are genes that have undergone changes, making them overly active or constantly "switched on." These genes normally help control cell growth and division, but when mutated, they can cause cells to grow uncontrollably. This abnormal cell growth can lead to cancer. Essentially, a mutated oncogene acts like a stuck gas pedal in a car, accelerating cell division beyond normal limits and contributing to tumor formation. Understanding these mutations is important for developing targeted cancer treatments.
