muscle fiber type
Muscle fiber types refer to different kinds of muscle cells that have distinct characteristics affecting how they function. There are mainly two types: Type I fibers, known as slow-twitch, which are resistant to fatigue and excel at endurance activities like long-distance running. Type II fibers, or fast-twitch, generate more force quickly but tire faster, suited for sprints or heavy lifting. Some fibers are a mix of both. The proportion of these fibers varies among individuals and influences athletic ability, with endurance athletes having more slow-twitch fibers and power athletes having more fast-twitch fibers.
