Murngin languages
Murngin languages, also known as Yolŋu languages, are a group of Aboriginal languages spoken by the Yolŋu people in northeastern Australia’s Arnhem Land region. These languages are part of the Pama–Nyungar language family and consist of several closely related dialects. They are rich in oral traditions, featuring complex kinship systems and storytelling. Murngin languages hold cultural significance, maintaining traditional knowledge, ceremonies, and social structures. Efforts are ongoing to preserve and revitalize these languages amid challenges from external influences, ensuring the enduring cultural identity of the Yolŋu people.
